Trick or treat flop...

Today, just back from work, I settled comfortably in front of my computer with a steaming expresso ready to get blogging when the doorbell started singing... Not expecting anyone. Probably my big friend the doorbell ghost again, I thought  (damn interferences!). But we never know, so I got up and went to the door... Surprisingly, there was someone at the door this time: a ghost actually, the cutest little dutch ghost I've ever seen. Halloween! of course, it's halloween today... Believe it or not, this was my first trick or... [Lire la suite]

The gourmande who was afraid of cheesecakes

Once upon a time, there was a lazy gourmande who loved cooking for the sake of gourmandise, entertaining loved ones and experimenting flavours. She was lazy but curious: she'd love trying new  ingredients and flavours, experimenting new techniques... In the kitchen, she could be very daring when she felt like it; she was not scared of getting dirty hands when it came to manipulating meat or fish; she loved trying rare ingredients she had never heard of before. Yet, she was cursed with a ridiculous fear for certain dishes and... [Lire la suite]

Frost, defrost, no-frost... brunch?

While my dutchie is a cycling freak and could spend hours looking and shopping for fancy expensive cycling gear, I, as a lazy gourmande, have something for fancy kitchen equipment... six pit stoves, professional gas-ovens, or just the kitchen aid department  at my favourite cook shop make my eyes shine with envy. Fridges are no exception though they are a little bit lower on my excitement scale. I dreamt for the cool and airy space of a fridge and freezer large enough to handle my saturday morning market escapades and our... [Lire la suite]

Recipe index

Lately, a wind of change blows on my kitchen diaries. I am far from an advanced programmer and have come to realise that some features will remain out of my reach for long. Yet, little by little, I wish to make my kitchen a cosy, homy and handy place for every one, like the kitchen of my childhood where everyone would always come back too. A recipe index, was definitely missing to this blog, especially with my bad habits of giving pretty strange post titles. I hope it will help you roam around my kitchen more easily! If not... Food lexicon

[Nota: Finally, a new revised version, clearer, neater... Dairy and liquids are still missing but will be added soon. Hope you'll like it] When I started this blog, I chose for the english language. My mothertongue is french but not many of my dutch and international friends are able to understand it. And when it comes to dutch, I have now acquired a certain command of the spoken word in dutch but my writing skills are far worse than my english writing skills and I guess that would have discouraged many readers... I now realise... [Lire la suite]

Where is the meat!

Lately, one of my carnivore relatives who had just discovered my blog made the remark that there was something essential missing on this blog: MEAT! I didn't believe her until I went through my archives... Since I started this blog, I hardly published a couple of meat recipes. I was schoked, I had to rectify that. So, readers, here is the truth: I am far from a vegeterian. I LOVE meat, all kinds of meat (except maybe some of the pork pieces). One of my favourites is a juicy and rare "cote de boeuf" from the barbecue...... [Lire la suite]

Aid Moubarak!

Today or tomorrow muslims around the world will celebrate the end of the ramadan. I am not a practising muslim myself and do not plan to post about religion anytime on this blog. I am a food driven person!I just thought it would be a good occasion to post about my last morrocan dinner at a very good friend of mine and give a few recipes of typical (and delicious) morrocan ramadan dishes. Unfortunately, I ran out of time this week. My post will come later. In the mean time, I wish muslims and gourmets around the world a... [Lire la suite]

Missing mum's magical cooking

I might not have told you yet: I am blessed with a morrocan mother and a wonderful cook. She can cook about anything and always makes it magical. I still remember when my bro' and I would go to a fancy restaurant with my parents when I was little. We would of course always try the dishes from one another and comment passionately on our favourite... A couple of weeks later it would usually come out of our own kitchen right into our plates, more delicious than ever. Our favourite game back then was to make her guess the secret... [Lire la suite]

Italy in the garden

I've never been known for my "green fingers". Every time someone offers me a plant that need a slight bit of attention, I can't help but thinking "Oh no, how long is it going to last under my care".Yet, after three years in our house, me and my dutchie finally managed to made a garden out of our garden, with green grass, healthy looking and flowering plants and all kinds of herbs... a miracle. For the veggies, we'll have to give it another try next year though: out of my three plants of tomatoes and my... [Lire la suite]
