Food lexicon

[Nota: Finally, a new revised version, clearer, neater... Dairy and liquids are still missing but will be added soon. Hope you'll like it] When I started this blog, I chose for the english language. My mothertongue is french but not many of my dutch and international friends are able to understand it. And when it comes to dutch, I have now acquired a certain command of the spoken word in dutch but my writing skills are far worse than my english writing skills and I guess that would have discouraged many readers... I now realise... [Lire la suite]

Where is the meat!

Lately, one of my carnivore relatives who had just discovered my blog made the remark that there was something essential missing on this blog: MEAT! I didn't believe her until I went through my archives... Since I started this blog, I hardly published a couple of meat recipes. I was schoked, I had to rectify that. So, readers, here is the truth: I am far from a vegeterian. I LOVE meat, all kinds of meat (except maybe some of the pork pieces). One of my favourites is a juicy and rare "cote de boeuf" from the barbecue...... [Lire la suite]

Aid Moubarak!

Today or tomorrow muslims around the world will celebrate the end of the ramadan. I am not a practising muslim myself and do not plan to post about religion anytime on this blog. I am a food driven person!I just thought it would be a good occasion to post about my last morrocan dinner at a very good friend of mine and give a few recipes of typical (and delicious) morrocan ramadan dishes. Unfortunately, I ran out of time this week. My post will come later. In the mean time, I wish muslims and gourmets around the world a... [Lire la suite]

Missing mum's magical cooking

I might not have told you yet: I am blessed with a morrocan mother and a wonderful cook. She can cook about anything and always makes it magical. I still remember when my bro' and I would go to a fancy restaurant with my parents when I was little. We would of course always try the dishes from one another and comment passionately on our favourite... A couple of weeks later it would usually come out of our own kitchen right into our plates, more delicious than ever. Our favourite game back then was to make her guess the secret... [Lire la suite]

Italy in the garden

I've never been known for my "green fingers". Every time someone offers me a plant that need a slight bit of attention, I can't help but thinking "Oh no, how long is it going to last under my care".Yet, after three years in our house, me and my dutchie finally managed to made a garden out of our garden, with green grass, healthy looking and flowering plants and all kinds of herbs... a miracle. For the veggies, we'll have to give it another try next year though: out of my three plants of tomatoes and my... [Lire la suite]

Ils ont les chapeaux ronds, vive les Bretons ¯ La grand plage in Dinard I know I've been complaining about the weather quite a lot on this blog lately... well, not today!Last weekend me and my dutchy went west to Brittany for a family weekend. I couldn't have dreamt for a better time to introduce my dutchie to the laidback way of life and many treasures of Bretagne... I just wish we had a few extra days. Summer dreams

Yes, I know... summer is long gone in the netherlands (if it ever came at all). Just stopped in town today after work to buy myself a new and warmer jacket 'cause I was freezing and blessed god for my heater thermostat when I came home. Not that the weather is so bad here, it's just cold. I can't help but long and dream for just a little bit more of summer. Warm evenings with late sunsets and a lot of friends around the barbecue... And you, well you might have more luck than me with that if I trust the world weather forecast which has... [Lire la suite]

Mandoline melody

Luckily for you, I am not in the mood to sing or exert any musical talent that I don't have! Not that it would really matter for you anyway as I have not yet become acquainted with podcasts and other blog fancy tricks... No, today, I would like to introduce you to one of my best friends in the kitchen: my mandoline...[nb - can't put my hands on my camera cable and the card transfer doesn't work properly, so no paparazzi picture of my mandoline today, you'll have to wait a bit...] I love vegetables such as carrots, cucumbers,... Automn is at the door

I don't know where summer got lost this year, but it definitely forgot to come and say hello to the Netherlands. On the other hand, autumn is already at the door. Strangely, days seem to be getting sunnier here, but they are definitely getting shorter and cooler. I love the fruit in this period in between seasons: the sweet and tasty figs (though the one in my garden are still hard as rocks and unripe green), the plums (pruims), the grapes... I particularly like the dutch plums, "Hollandse pruimen", their half... [Lire la suite]

Mea Culpa from a lazy gourmande

Dear readers (if there are still any), Mea Culpa! I am indeed a lazy gourmande. Just a little bit more than one year ago, I abandonned my blog without notice... There was not much time to cook this year, nor to blog. I miss it. I regret also leaving without notice.  I could say that I had warned my public since the beginning of my terrible lazyness. Although, it was not only about lazyness this year. It was a very busy year, a very good year too: I almost stopped cooking, and definitely stopped blogging, got on the verge of... [Lire la suite]
