Italy in the garden

I've never been known for my "green fingers". Every time someone offers me a plant that need a slight bit of attention, I can't help but thinking "Oh no, how long is it going to last under my care".Yet, after three years in our house, me and my dutchie finally managed to made a garden out of our garden, with green grass, healthy looking and flowering plants and all kinds of herbs... a miracle. For the veggies, we'll have to give it another try next year though: out of my three plants of tomatoes and my... [Lire la suite]

Summer dreams

Yes, I know... summer is long gone in the netherlands (if it ever came at all). Just stopped in town today after work to buy myself a new and warmer jacket 'cause I was freezing and blessed god for my heater thermostat when I came home. Not that the weather is so bad here, it's just cold. I can't help but long and dream for just a little bit more of summer. Warm evenings with late sunsets and a lot of friends around the barbecue... And you, well you might have more luck than me with that if I trust the world weather forecast which has... [Lire la suite]

Fish! I like it raw! (3)

Last week, I was almost finished with the 3rd opus of my raw fish special... I was talking about raw fish of course, but I also allowed myself in alyric prose about my addiction to the covered market "Les Halles" in my home town and all its marvels. I was about to press the "post and publish" key when I saw a typo. And then, everything just disappeared: I pressed backspace  instead of delete and my post was gone... pfffuit! Impossible to get my post back. I was so upset that I didn't find the courage to post... [Lire la suite]

Fish! I like it RAW! (1)

Have you ever had the impression of working in a sauna or should I say in hell? Well, today I did...  we have no airco at work and the sunscreen of my office just broke down: the thermometer often exceded the 31 C inside today! All that to say, that when I came home, I hardly felt like eating and especially not something warm. Luckily, I've become a master at gazpacho's, fresh salads, carpaccio's and other fresh recipes. Among my favourites: raw fish! sashimi from my local sushi bar Kiraku* is one of my treats and I'm a fan of... [Lire la suite]

"Blog appetit" or how to become a foodblog addict (EN)

As promised: a translation of my contribution to Blog appetit (I have tried without much success to make it a bit more concise than the french version, because frankly... I talk too much!) As I acknowledged to my french readers, I have a secret: the "blog appetit" contest is at the origin of my food blog addiction... Everything started about a year agowhen I inadvertantly discovered the website. Since, beside my growing addiction to food blogs, I have been secretely cherishing the dream of creating my very own blog and of... [Lire la suite]

Under the sun, at last!

Sun in the netherlands is something you should not fail to enjoy... as it will not always be there! For the last 10 days, it has been sunny and warm and I did enjoy it, hence the lack of posts on this blog. The thermometer generously  exceeding the twenties, I finally found the courage to clean up my garden which had become more like a war field. After work, I could not avoid the sunny and crowded cafe terasses in the center of the city or at the beach for a rest in the sun and a white and fresh Hoegaarden while chatting... [Lire la suite]

Moroccan greens...

It is about two years since I last went to Morocco. I didn't realise how much I missed it until I stepped out of the plane in casablanca airport. I had never been there in spring before. I was very happily surprised Morrocco in spring is more beautiful than ever: It is warm and sunny, and calm. The flowers are more colourful and fragrant than ever, it's already warm enough for the still empty beaches and the old medina is not packed with red tourists in shorts and sandals. Several times during these five short days, I felt I could... [Lire la suite]
