Last saturday, 2. p.m, at the crowded local market: I am standing exhausted among the fish stalls, my shoulders hurt from all the bags I'm carrying. I have everything I need for a whole week of fresh season vegetables and fruits. Unfortunately, the asperges have not appeared on the stalls yet... but I got fragrant deep red strawberries and a juicy mango instead. The fish looked amazing that day: after a lot of hesitation, I decided for a beutifully fresh sea bar, some mackerels. There is also that fish: "Wijting"... [Lire la suite]

I admit it: I am a food obsessed frenchy! If you get me started on food, I can go on for hours. When I visit a country I am always looking forward to taste the local delicacies. And food shopping is always a must. However, since I first set foot in the Netherlands, I have never stopped complaining about the food (for my defence: dutch food is a common source of complaint for most of the foreigners, tourists, expats or immigrants in this country).... and I think I always will (at least a little). I remember, during my first... [Lire la suite]

It is about two years since I last went to Morocco. I didn't realise how much I missed it until I stepped out of the plane in casablanca airport. I had never been there in spring before. I was very happily surprised Morrocco in spring is more beautiful than ever: It is warm and sunny, and calm. The flowers are more colourful and fragrant than ever, it's already warm enough for the still empty beaches and the old medina is not packed with red tourists in shorts and sandals. Yesterday afternoon, I left my man at home while I went ahead for a crazy shopping afternoon. To compensate for my late return (long after all the shops had closed), I brought back a few delicacies for a romantic diner a deux. In my shopping basket were among others some guinea fowl and a dozen dutch oysters from Zeeland. I entered the house like a tornado looking forward to show off my discoveries to my man,... only to found him lying on the couch, a plaid on his shoulders, looking back at me slowly with feverish eyes: "........ I am a french girl living in the Netherlands, a country we familiarly call "l'autre pays du fromage" in france (no, we french are not food oriented chauvinists...). My diploma in hand, I have deserted my country more than five years ago now, full of ambitions and dreams of european citizenship... After some time, the rain , the too-pragmatic-and-too-tall dutch guys and the strange food got me thinking if this was really a country for a little girl from the south like me. That was until I found my own... [Lire la suite]

Spring is in the air! I am slowly awakening from my hybernation. For months I have dreamt of this blog, but the mood wasn't there. Maybe it was too cold, or too dark... Maybe I was just being lazy... Anyway, here I am! With my kitchen diaries I wish to give you a glimpse of my passion for food, my gourmandise, my curiosity. It will be fresh, spicy and slightly girlish... Beware though... I am a lazy animal! Bienvenue dans ma cuisine! m.
